The Envoy is an NPC dedicated to the Festival of the Spirits. He can be found in Detlas from October 8th, 2021 to October 31st, 2021. After the Festival of the Spirits is over, he disappeared from Detlas. He is also joined by The Seer and The Guide. The Envoy is the brother of the Bonfire Tender.

The Envoy also reappears in the Festival of the Bonfire alongside The Seer for the Guiding of the Spirits.

He later reappeared in the 2023 Festival of the Spirits as the main NPC for the main minigame of the festival, Banish the Beyond.

Dialogue[]

2021 Festival of the Spirits[]

First Conversation[]

  • The Envoy: Oh, there you are! You're that hero the Seer has been telling us all about! A pleasure to finally meet you.
  • The Envoy: Well, what do you think? We've worked hard on bringing these atmospheric decorations to this realm. I think the large pit in the center is quite atmospheric, is it not?
  • The Envoy: ...You're looking at me like you want an explanation. And I certainly could give it to you... But where's the fun in that?
  • The Envoy: We're here for {x days/1 day}, there's plenty of time left to enjoy ourselves! Plenty of time to seek out the truth yourself, hm?
  • The Envoy: So relax! Have a good time, and enjoy the show. It'll be a once in a lifetime experience.

Consecutive Conversations[]

Before the final Drawing of the Spirits:

  • The Envoy: Well! Our resident hero has returned. Anything I can do for you on this fine day?

First time speaking to him after the final Drawing of the Spirits:

  • The Envoy: Hello there! I heard the spirits had been drawn for the last time, which is rather exciting, is it not?
  • The Envoy: It means the end is soon to come! And with that, our time here in your realm will be spent.
  • The Envoy: Oh, right. Is there anything I can do for you?

Following Conversations after the Drawing of the Spirits:

  • The Envoy: This event of ours draws to a close, hero! Is there anything you need, before time runs out?
    • [1] What are you?
      • The Envoy: What are we? Well, that's a loaded question, is it not? I'm human, just like you! Was human, at the very least.
      • The Envoy: The others are a touch more complicated, but I've had quite a connection to your world from the start.
      • The Envoy: It doesn't matter what you think of us, anyway. We'll get what we need out of this realm with or without your assistance. It's rather up to you, if you'd like to participate.
    • [2] Why have you come here?
      • The Envoy: Straight to the point, I suppose. Like I said earlier, I'm of the opinion that it's more fun if we take our time with things!
      • The Envoy: You want answers? Go on, then! Seek them out. There's plenty to find if you know where to look.
      • The Envoy: And, should you want more? Wait for the third bell to ring. Return, then, and ask again. Maybe you'll find a new face around, hm?
    • [3] Tell me something.
      • The Envoy: You want me to tell you something? Sure, why not! Bring me something interesting, and I'll grant you my thoughts on whatever it may be.
      • The Envoy: What would you like to know more about?
        • [1] Not right now.
          • The Envoy: Very well! Off you go, then. Unless there's something else you need?
        • [2] Emblem of the Bonfire
          • The Envoy: ... A bonfire. Hm. I suppose that means you've met my brother, then.
          • The Envoy: It's very unlike him to meddle with this world's affairs. I wonder what could have driven him to do so...
          • The Envoy: I suppose our sort have to get by somehow! Not many options left.
        • [3] Emblem of the Spirits
          • The Envoy: Oh! So you've helped the Guide with their task, have you? That's good of you.
          • The Envoy: They won't say so directly, but they've been a touch nervous about this event of ours. Guiding spirits can be a difficult task.
          • The Envoy: You seem to have it covered, though! Keep it up.
        • [4] Mysterious Egg
          • The Envoy: This... is certainly an egg. I would ask where you found it, but I'm not sure I want to know the answer.
          • The Envoy: Whatever it is, I would suggest you keep it far from here. I can speak for all of us when I say we don't want any part in this.
        • [5] Twain's Journal
          • The Envoy: The Twains... I am familiar with that name, thought not for the reasons you would think.
          • The Envoy: I... had a brother, once. He was forceful, in ways, but he had a good heart. He was obsessed with various stories of people across these lands...
          • The Envoy: The Twains were of those he would tell me about. Great wielders of magic, who kept this land safe for as long as they could. I do miss him, sometimes.
          • The Envoy: But my work is never finished, and thus I continue. Now, is that all?
        • [6] Bottled Spirits
          • The Envoy: Oh, now that's quite the item you have there! Heard the bell then, have you?
          • The Envoy: This item brings back fond memories... I remember the day The Guide sealed them within the bottle. That was back when we meant something, you know? Nowadays, we're stuck doing things like... this.
          • The Envoy: Well, times change, I suppose I'd rather be here than there, so here I yet remain!
        • [7] Bag of Tricks
          • First selection:
            • The Envoy: Oh, you found my Bag of Tricks! I was wondering where that old thing had gotten. Thought I might have lost it, back at...
            • The Envoy: Hm? No, I don't need it back. It was always a touch too unpredictable for my liking. I'm sure you'll find a use for it!
            • The Envoy: Just... ah, one thing. If you happen to find my old top hat in here, do you mind bringing it back to me?
          • If you've received the Top Hat? effect from the Bag of Tricks:
            • The Envoy: You found my Top Hat! Why, I've been missing this thing for... quite some time!
            • The Envoy: Thank you for returning it. Oh, speaking of which. I believe I'm still missing my other Top Hat, which... you know...
        • [8] Drawing of the Spirits
          • The Envoy: It's quite a beautiful piece of art, is it not? I remember The Seer held on to this for the longest time, claiming he had created it himself!
          • The Envoy: Even then, it was rather obvious it wasn't his. I never did learn who the artist behind it was. Was it the spirits themselves? Or was it someone, long ago...
          • The Envoy: I'm more surprised that you got ahold of it. It was payment to those Beyond to allow us to come here in the first place. To think they'd give it up, not long after...
        • [9] Mask of the Spirits
          • When received from Drawing of the Spirits:
            • The Envoy: Ah... the Mask. Seems the spirits have taken a liking to you! That's quite an important item you've got there, hero. Take care not to lose it.
            • The Envoy: Such masks are important to those who create them. To be given one is to be blessed by the spirits themselves.
          • When received from The Guide:
            • The Envoy: Ah... the Mask. This... is no ordinary mask, though. Did the Guide give you this?
            • The Envoy: Such masks are important to those who create them. To be given one is to be blessed by the spirits themselves.
            • The Envoy: For the Guide to give you one themselves... I suppose you must have done something quite impressive for them.
        • [10] Talking Mushroom
          • First selection:
            • The Envoy: Right... ah... May I ask. What exactly is this?
            • Talking Mushroom: OH, WHAT? YOU'VE NEVER SEEN A MUSHROOM TALK BEFORE? I THOUGHT YOU LOT WERE SPOOKY AND ALL-KNOWING!!
            • The Envoy: I don't think any of us have claimed to be 'all-knowing', little fungus. Even so, you're... interesting. Something unique.
            • Talking Mushroom: WHO'RE YOU CALLING LITTLE!!! I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW, I HAVE SOME INCREDIBLY POWERFUL MUSHROOM MAGIC, AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!!!!
            • The Envoy: Powerful mushroom magic, you say... Hero, if I may? Could I possibly take your companion off your hands for a little while... You've raised some interesting questions, and I'd like to know the answers.
            • Talking Mushroom: YEAH, RIGHT!! WE'LL NEVER LISTEN TO YOU... YOU. UH. WEIRD TOP HAT WEARING PERSON. I DON'T KNOW, THE OTHERS FELT MORE MENACING. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED GAINING SPOOKY MAGIC POWERS?
            • The Envoy: Ah... Right. Of course. Well, if you... need anything. You know where to find me!
          • Following selections:
            • The Envoy: ... You know, if you've changed your mind-
            • Talking Mushroom: AS IF!! I'M JUST HERE TO YELL AT YOU SOME MORE!!!
    • [4] When will you depart?
      • The Envoy: An excellent question! It's never too late to start keeping track of time, hm?
      • The Envoy: We shall depart from this realm in {x days/1 day/x hours/less than an hour}. There's plenty to do till then, so don't waste the time you've got!
    • [5] The Guide claims you know where the spirits are.
      • Before 24th October, 2021:
        • The Envoy: That, I certainly do know! However. Isn't it a touch to early to be seeking the exact answers?
        • The Envoy: Have some fun! Go out there, explore! You have that old tuner, don't you? That should get you close enough!
        • The Envoy: And, look. If you don't manage to find them all, come back one week before we leave. Then, I'll give you the answers you seek. Deal?
      • After 24th October, and have at least one spirit not found:
        • The Envoy: That, I certainly do know! Are you asking for my help, perchance?
        • The Envoy: Excellent. My help is one of the few things I can grant you! Let's see...
        • The Envoy: Here we are! It seems one of the spirits you seek is near {Location}. Happy hunting!
      • After 24th October-30th October having found all of the currently accessible spirits:
        • The Envoy: That, I certainly do know, hero! However... it doesn't seem as though there are any spirits currently present.
        • The Envoy: Seems you're keeping up with them! Keep it up.
      • Having found all of the Spirits:
        • The Envoy: That, I certainly do know, hero! However... it seems you have already found them all. Perhaps you should have come sooner?
    • [6] I need nothing from you.
      • The Envoy: Nothing? Well, so be it! I have plenty to say, though if you do not wish to hear me out, there isn't much I can do to convince you otherwise.

When a Spirit is being sent to the Beyond[]

First Conversation[]

Participated in the Festival of the Spirits[]
  • The Envoy: Hello, hello! You must be the hero the Seer has been talking to us all about! A pleasure to finally-
  • The Seer: We've... met before. You don't have to do this every time.
  • The Envoy: Oh, but where's the fun in that? Aren't I allowed to be a little dramatic? It is such a rarity for us to visit the mortal realm.
  • The Seer: ...Fine, do what you will. Just remember that I told you so when you finally scare off our friend here.
  • The Envoy: Alright, alright, I understand. Well, hello there, hero! It's been a while, hasn't it?
  • The Seer: One year, to be precise. Though, I'd suppose you'd know better than us, wouldn't you?
  • The Envoy: Now who's scaring them off, hm? We're all here to enjoy the festivities, yes? Come around sometime, friend! We can celebrate just as we did last time. Maybe there's even something you can help with, hm?
Did not participate in the Festival of the Spirits[]
  • The Envoy: Hello, hello! You must be the hero the Seer has been talking to us all about! A pleasure to finally-
  • The Seer: You're scaring them off/ You don't have to do this every time.
  • The Envoy: Oh, but where's the fun in that? Aren't I allowed to be a little dramatic? It is such a rarity for us to visit the mortal realm.
  • The Seer: ...Fine, do what you will. Just remember that I told you so when the hero stops wanting to talk to us.
  • The Envoy: Alright, alright, I understand. Well, hello there, hero! Like I was saying earlier- it's good to meet you!
  • The Envoy: Have you met my brother yet? He's the one who put together this whole get-together. Though if it were up to me, I'd make it more... spooky.
  • The Seer: Well, regardless of "spookiness", we're here to enjoy the festivities. Come by again if you'd like, hero. Perhaps there is something you could help us with.

Following Conversations[]

  • The Envoy: Hello again, hero! Anything I can do for you on this lovely not-summer day?
    • [1] Is there anything you need help with?[1]
      • The Envoy: As it so happens, there is something we need help with! And you're just the hero to do it.
      • The Envoy: You see- we're not just here to relax. We have something of a... predicament. There are fragments of spirits scattered across the land, and-
      • The Seer: And there's not much we can do about it. Normally, we would have our Guide handle it, but... Well, let's say it isn't an option.
      • The Envoy: But you're here, hero! And you can help us out, if you're willing. The Guide left us their lantern, which you'll be able to use to track these specters down.
      • The Envoy: Oh- right. Most likely you'd want a reward for your efforts, yes? Well, for every spirit you disperse for us, I can offer you a sum of emeralds.
      • The Envoy: In addition- we have several old trinkets of ours lying down. For every seven spirits you disperse, I'll gift you one of them.
      • The Seer: These spirits are... unpredictable. They will make themselves known over time. I suspect that there will be one new spirit to track down every day.
      • The Envoy: With all that said, here's the lantern! Er-... take care not to lose it, would you? Otherwise, happy hunting!
      • [+1 Lantern from Beyond]
    • [1] Can you remind me what I need to do?[2]
      • The Envoy: Ah- alright. To say it briefly, we need you to track down spirits scattered across the land, and disperse their essence for us.
      • The Envoy: You have the Guide's lantern, which will let you know where these spirits are hiding.
      • The Envoy: We'll reward you for each spirit you vanquish, and offer old trinkets for every seven.
      • The Envoy: The spirits are unpredictable, which means there will be one new spirit to track down every day.
      • The Envoy: I think that's all of it. Happy hunting!
    • [2] I've dispersed some spirits. Can I have my rewards?[3]
      • The Envoy: Ah, yes! Rewards. Seems you've dispersed {x} more spirits since we last spoke!
      • The Envoy: Here is your payment for your work, hero.
        • Shroud of Darkness[4]
          • The Envoy: Oh, but you've found seven spirits! Excellent, that means I can gift you...
          • The Envoy: This Shroud of Darkness! When used, it'll make it seem like it's always nighttime. Perfect for the spooky season, is it not?
          • [+1 Shroud of Darkness]
        • Portable Pumpkin[5]
          • The Envoy: Ah, you've found fourteen spirits? Another milestone, let's see here...
          • The Envoy: You can have this Portable Pumpkin! It'll allow you to summon a large pumpkin at will! Certainly... useful? I'm sure you'll find a use for it.
          • [+1 Portable Pumpkin]
        • Bag of Tricks[6]
          • The Envoy: But wait, what's this? You've disperesed all twenty-one spirits! Thank you greatly for your help, hero.
          • The Envoy: As a reward, I present to you... The Bag of Tricks! This one's a favorite of mine, and I hope it'll serve you well.
          • [+1 Bag Of Tricks]
    • [3] I lost the lantern.[7]
      • The Envoy: I should have known this would happen... Well, luckily for you, it seems the lantern has made its way back to us!
      • The Envoy: So, er- you can have it back, I suppose. Don't lose it again, though!
      • [+1 Lantern from Beyond]
    • [4] Where's the Guide?[8]
      • The Envoy: Oh, they're... somewhere around here, I suppose.
      • The Envoy: I'm not entirely sure why they've decided to go off on their own, but it certainly makes our job harder.
      • The Envoy: If you'd like to ask them about it, you can feel free.
    • [4] What happened to your Guide?[9]
      • The Envoy: Oh, they're... somewhere around here, I suppose.
      • The Envoy: I'm not entirely sure why they've decided to go off on their own, but it certainly makes our job harder.
      • The Envoy: If you'd like to ask them about it, you can feel free.
    • [5] So, why are you all here?
      • The Envoy: Why, we're on vacation of course! We all needed a little break from our work in the Beyond.
      • The Envoy: It also made an excellent opportunity to reconnect with my brother! We haven't spoken in years, you know.
      • The Envoy: It's good to have a part of my family back together, at the very least. It's been a while since we all went our separate ways, as it were.
    • [6] Just stopping by.
      • The Envoy: Very well! I'll see you around.

2023 Festival of the Spirits[]

Spooky Detlas[]

The Envoy can initially be found near the Guide in the center of Spooky Detlas. The first dialogue is done in tandem with the Guide.

  • The Guide: ...The connection has been established. My part in this is finished.
  • The Envoy: Good, good. Now, all we need to do is wait for- ah, there you are!
  • The Envoy: We have been waiting for you, hero! But now that you're here, we can begin.
    • [1] Have we met? Who are you?
      • The Envoy: ...
      • The Envoy: Perhaps we haven't! But that's quite alright. The Seer was very specific with his instructions.
      • The Guide: Too specific, perhaps...
      • The Envoy: In any case, you asked who we are? We're... shall we say, a group of individuals interested in the continued wellbeing of this realm!
      • The Envoy: And, well... there has been an incident, of sorts, in the Beyond. Many spirits have escaped into your world, while others...
    • [2] Right, I forgot you were like this.
      • The Envoy: Well, now. That's no way to greet a friend, is it?
      • The Guide: ...It's not like they have a wrong impression of you, Envoy. You are like this.
      • The Envoy: What! You'd turn on me as well? And here I thought we were friends.
      • The Envoy: Well, whatever the case, you're here now! And, as it so happens, we need your help... again.
      • The Envoy: There has been... an incident, of sorts, in the Beyond. Many spirits have escaped into your world, while others...
    • [3] ...What?
      • The Envoy: What do you mean, what? Did I not make myself perfectly clear?
      • The Guide: ...You did not.
      • The Envoy: Hmph. Everyone's a critic. Well, you're here now, so you'll be able to help us, yes?
      • The Envoy: There has been... an incident, of sorts, in the Beyond. Many spirits have escaped into your world, while others...
  • The Guide: Others have not yet succeeded. But we cannot allow them to.
  • The Envoy: Exactly! And, so, we need your help. The Guide here can point you in the direction of your escapades, if you speak to them.
  • The Envoy: And, as for the others... We've spoken to the Event Airship Captain. He'll bring you there directly.
  • The Envoy: We'll speak there. See you soon!

The Envoy will then vanish with this dialogue.

  • The Guide: ...And he's gone. You heard what he said. Speak to me for the Guiding, and take the airship for the Banishment.

The Beyond[]

The Envoy can later be found in the Beyond.

First Conversation[]
  • The Envoy: There you are! Welcome to the Beyond, hero!
  • The Envoy: So. We... ah, have a problem, I should say. Deep below in this place Beyond.
  • The Envoy: The spirits grow... restless. Though the hope is they pass on once they arrive, the fact of the matter is many have not.
  • The Envoy: These malignant spirits roam that place, hoping to escape. We, ah, cannot have that.
  • The Envoy: So! We're sending you in! In all likelyhood, they will attempt to take control of one of your group... But, in doing so, they will become vulnerable.
  • The Envoy: Find a way to banish them to the Beyond, and you will be rewarded! Take care not to, ah... you know. Good luck!
Old Following Conversations[]
  • The Envoy: Well, hello! How goes the banishing?
  • The Envoy: If you would like to learn more about this place, speak to The Guide. They'll help you out.
New Following Conversations[]
  • The Envoy: Well, hello! How goes the banishing?
    • [1] I'm still confused. What am I meant to be doing?
      • The Envoy: What are you meant to be doing? Well, banishing spirits, of course!
      • The Envoy: ...Although, if you wish to know more, you should speak to the Guide. They'll have the information you seek.
    • [2] So, why are you both doing this?
      • The Envoy: Why are we doing this? Well, it's our job. We've been commissioned by... someone rather powerful.
      • The Envoy: As such, it's important we succeed. We wouldn't want to disappoint him.
      • The Guide: I'm not sure he can be disappointed.
      • The Envoy: Well, maybe. But I'm not sure that we want to prove it one way or the other.
    • [3] Who are you working for?[10]
      • The Envoy: Ah. Right. You're curious, I suppose. But, well, you see...
      • The Envoy: ...We were asked not to speak of it.
      • The Envoy: Yes! That. But... I suppose that I can tell you that he's, ah, rather invested in this.
      • The Envoy: We do a number of jobs for him that he can't quite do where he's at. Busy with paperwork, and all.
      • The Envoy: ...It is interesting, though. You'd think he'd take issue with where we are, and yet...
      • The Envoy: He knows we are no threat, and are useful to have around.
      • The Envoy: I suppose. Still, though.
    • [4] I've met the Storyteller.[11]
      • The Envoy: The Storyteller... I'm sorry to say, I have no idea who you're talking about.
      • The Envoy: Guide, you're knowledgeable. Do you know who this "Storyteller" figure is?
      • The Guide: ...I do.
      • The Envoy: Ah, good, I knew I could count on you. Well, are they someone I should be concerned with?
      • The Guide: ...No. They are... not worth your time.
      • The Envoy: Well, that's that, then. I wish you luck in your future interactions with this figure, hero.
    • [4] We need to talk about the Storyteller.
      • The Envoy: This again? I told you, I don't know who this is.
      • The Guide: ...They are someone you know, Envoy.
      • The Envoy: And you didn't think to mention this before? Who is this Storyteller?
        • [1] The Storyteller is your brother Aster.
      • The Envoy: Aster? Since when has he-... Good grief. Guide, why did you tell me they weren't worth my time?
      • The Guide: ...I was being selfish. I thought... it would be better to avoid that meeting.
      • The Envoy: ...Right. We'll have to talk about that some other time. Hero, why bring this up now?
      • The Envoy: Hm. Interesting. Strange of him to reach out like this... I didn't think he knew we all were-
      • The Envoy: Ehm. In any case, I can do my best to visit. It might be hard to get the time off, though...
      • The Guide: I can put a word in with the boss. He won't say no. Not for this.
      • The Envoy: Then it's settled. Hero, we'll be there.
    • [5] Have you heard from Aster recently?[12]
      • The Envoy: Hm? No, I can't say I have.
      • The Envoy: Although, it's not the easiest thing to get into contact with someone who's mostly dead, is it? I can't say I blame him.
      • The Envoy: ...I haven't sought him out to tell him, either. He deserves to live out his life, without the burden of our mistakes.
      • The Envoy: I hope he's doing well. I'm certain he is. He always was the best of us.
    • [6] It's going well.
      • The Envoy: Good to hear! Keep up the good work.
Spirit Descriptions[]

The Spirit descriptions are done in tandem with The Guide.

The Wanderer[]
  • The Envoy: Hm... That's another one dealt with, I suppose.
  • The Guide: ...Good riddance.
  • The Envoy: I wouldn't have expected you of all people to have such strong opinions on one of our targets.
  • The Guide: ...Forsaking mortality is an act which should not be taken lightly. And extending that same act elsewhere, without offering a choice...
  • The Guide: It does not feel right, to me.
  • The Envoy: I suppose that's fair enough. I may not feel as strongly about that, but I see where you're coming from.
The Terror[]
  • The Envoy: Does this thing even count? I didn't know it had a will to speak of.
  • The Guide: When an object becomes animate, it gains... a certain degree of thought. Especially in this case.
  • The Envoy: This is quite, a unique one, I'll give it that. I'll be glad to mark it off the list, though.
  • The Envoy: I was dreading having to face it... Good to know I won't have to, after all!
The Taken[]
  • The Envoy: A shame, this one. I had almost held hope for it, once.
  • The Guide: ...You know that story always had to end this way.
  • The Envoy: Yes, well, that doesn't mean I can't still feel for the soul, does it?
  • The Guide: I suppose. You would have more right than any of us, after all.
The Vermin[]
  • The Envoy: This- you're certain this is correct? A large vermin of some sort possessed one of your party?
  • The Envoy: I'm not sure how to put this... but this isn't one of the spirits on our list. Although, if it was as powerful as you said it was...
  • The Guide: It... may be wise to reassess our targets.
  • The Envoy: Yes! Yes. Well- it does seem you took care of it, so. Well done, you.
The Keeper[]
  • The Envoy: Ah... This one.
  • The Guide: A familiar face.
  • The Envoy: Or so it would seem... But- well. It isn't, really, is it?
  • The Guide: ...Still, it was close to him. That connection is no less powerful, despite its false visage.
  • The Envoy: Yes, yes, I understand. It has been put to rest, so we shall leave it at that.

Trivia[]

  • While the Bonfire Keeper is known to be the Envoy's brother, two other characters associated with other festivals are also likely the Envoy's siblings, these being The Traveler and Aster.
    • Aster is also the only one of these siblings whose name is not their job.
