"...The Gerten War was a bloody, long war brought on by starvation... The Gerts have since been subdued, left in their primary territory. They are so full of gluttony they say they are starving!
~ Cikal

The Gert is a green-skinned, pumpkin-wearing, brute species similar to the Orcs and the Trolls confined in their Gert Camp just north of Lake Gylia. Although Gerts are not nearly as intelligent as Humans or Villagers, they are among the most talented hunters in Gavel. However, this aptitude does not serve them well, as they are mostly prevented by the Gylia Watch from crossing the boundaries of their camp.[1] Their lacking ability to provide themselves with food without hunting combined with their large, meaty appetites has caused mass starvation among the species, which is explicated with more depth in the quests The Hunger of Gerts Part I and Part II.

History[]

In the year 400 BP, sometime during the 6th Age, two Meteors of a Purple and Blue color fell into the backyard of a Villager Scholar. He wanted to unlock the mysterious nature of the meteors, intending that his research would later be the backbone of the societies of future generations. However, the more he studied the Meteors, the more he became warped by their cosmic magic, starting with him barely recognizing himself, then switching to a meat-only diet, and eventually dubbing himself as the first Gert, since at that point, he barely resembled a Villager anymore.[2]

The Villagers, however, did not realize that Gerts were really transformed Villagers, and instead viewed them as a Pseudo-Greenskin species.[3] Many theories emerged as to how they came to be, some theories suggested they were aliens that came with the Gylian Meteors, others think that they came from another area like the Canyon of the Lost and were drawn to the Meteors, with the truth being unknown to them.[4] However, the two species managed to coexist in the Gylia Plains, as the Gerts would hunt the wildlife and the Villagers would farm in the Gylia Plains. It was not until before the year 800 AP when Gerts would then switch to stealing livestock of the Villagers, then eventually, kidnapping Villagers to eat them.[1]

Eventually, the city of Cinfras later sent the town of Lexdale a letter, along with 20 soldiers to defend Lexdale from the Gerts. The Cinfrasian Soldiers defended Lexdale well, as the Gerten forces were losing more and more battles, but that was about to change soon, as there were more and more Gerts attacking Lexdale. More and more soldiers later lost their lives and were eaten by the Gerts, and eventually, a war was declared against them, going down as the Gerten War.[5]

A very large force of the Cinfrasian Military was sent to Lexdale, but despite it being a very generous defense, it would easily be destroyed by the Gerts, as they pulled a majority of the army away from Lexdale after the first Gerten attack, thinking the war was over. However, the Gerts later got even more forces against the Villagers, and eventually, the Villager army was looking like it would embarrassingly lose against the Gerts, as a defensive strategy would let the Gerts launch an unstoppable assault on Lexdale, while an offensive one would just give them more rations.[5]

It wasn't until a local militia made of Gylian Farmers, revolted by the incompetency of the Cinfrasian Army that they would come up with a strategy to end the Gerten War, made by a man called Norler. Unlike previous wars the Villagers fought against, this one was vastly different because of one key thing, the Gerts were not lead by a strategy, but instead merely instinct, compared to other intellectual species. The only two things that mattered to Gerts were food and reproduction. Their main cares would be used against them in the war by Norler, as a plan would be conceived to drop rotten and decaying meat over Gerten territories, while the Cinfrasian Army chose to fight battles that would change barely anything. Norler's plan was later put into the effect of the Lexdale government, which was approved purely out of desperation. Because of this, Norler's plan worked flawlessly, as rotting meat was dropped over Gerten areas, which left them all riddled with disease. Norler later thought of another plan, containing the Gerts, as they could never be fully eradicated. A group of soldiers dedicated to the war would then push the Gerts to the northern hills of the Gyila Plains, containing the Gerts in a camp, ending the Gerten War.[5]

Norler's forces would later establish the Gylia Watch,[5] which while originally devoted to watching over the Gerts, later became run by people who did not care about their military duty, but rather, getting drunk and gambling. Because of this, while it seems the Gerts are being taught the 'civilized' ways of life by the Gylia Watch, they are actually enacting plans to rise to their former glory, even digging under the Gylia Watch without them even noticing. They have even been almost obvious as to what they were doing, as they replaced pigs in a pen with a fake pig.[1]

However, there is another worry of the Gerts. There is a meat factory underneath the farm of a farmer in the Gyila Plains called Jitak, called the 'Battery Farm.' In there, Gerts are lured into the factory, and then later killed and reassembled as Meat Abominations by a man called Big Butch. The Battery Farm sends the meat to all of Gavel, and as such, most of Gavel, without even knowing it, eats Gert meat, and by an extent, almost cannibalism, since like the other Villagers, Big Butch does not know they are related to them.[6]

Location[]

Gerts spawn in two locations, one being the Main Gert Camp where they are peaceful. They also spawn in smaller surrounding camps but are hostile towards players there.

List of Gerts[]

  • The First Gert - A Villager Scholar that went insane from the Gylian Meteors, mutating into a Gert.
  • Gerten Chief Snaga - A Gerten Chief that seems to have ideas for making a tunnel underneath the Gylia Watch to create a way to steal livestock from farmers.
    • He is also accompanied by two other Gerten Chiefs, both dubbed Vongar and Bonfo respectively.
  • Gerten Captain - A Gert who is seemingly there to imprison Villagers and Humans into becoming food for the Gerts.
  • Gerten Prison Warden - This Gert is the warden of the Gerten prison that is under the Gylia Plains. He seems to be dedicated to not letting prisoners escape.
  • Gerten Chief Lobo - Another Gerten Chief, Lobo wants to make all the other Gerts eat food as well, showing that while the higher Gerts in their society are more powerful, everyone gets a fair share of rewards. Once he learns of the Battery Farm, he wants to free the animals so they can roam the Gylia Plains, as well as being hunted by the Gerts.
  • Solitary Gert - Unlike other Gerts, this one lives alone, near the Gylia Watch. The reason why it is separated is unknown.
